We work with so many different industries we are well aware that no two applications are the same which means that not every application requires the same material. This is why we offer a variety of options when it comes to non-metallic material. SBR, or styrene-butadiene rubber, is a popular rubber that we like to use for a number of applications. It is very resistant to water making it a great choice for a basic gasket.

(GRS/Buna-S….Styrene Butadiene Rubber) General Temperature Ranges 0/+195 F

Generally resistant to:
Water, air, anti-freeze, detergents, salt solutions, bases, alcohols, and some acids.

Generally affected or attacked by:
Oils, greases, solvents, hydrocarbons, strong acids, and ozone.

Also known as Buna-S, this synthetic rubber is used because of its abrasion resistance and good aging stability when taken care of. This material is also popular because it offers durability, reduced shrinkage and increased flexibility, as well as being resistant to emulsification in damp conditions. Therefore, it can typically be used to create dampeners when needed.

SBR is a very basic gasket material. It offers some cost savings as compared to other materials, however needs to be used in the proper applications.

SBR is a great material to use if you are looking for something basic; it has a decent temperature range and offers a number of advantages when it comes to its natural resistance to water, air and other environments in which a gasket might be used in. However, due to the basic nature of SBR it is crucial to make sure that it is only used in certain applications. If you are unsure if SBR is a good fit for your application, our experts would be happy to listen to your application and process to see if SBR is the right material for you.
